This piece is part of a daily “What the Fuck of the Day” series here on Antigone Awakens, where I briefly discuss one thing each day that has me seriously saying, WTF?!?!
This post is really just a precursor to a longer post I’m writing on this topic, but this picture stopped me dead in my tracks during my research, so I thought it was worth a share.
Whilst researching MRA views on abortion rights, I came across the above picture on a Live Action News (the home base of Lila Rose) article about those poor, poor men who are being denied the right to choose whether or not their partners have an abortion.
The picture, however, wasn’t the problem. The problem, was the caption below the picture:
“In the abortion issue, men are often treated as faceless, voiceless individuals.”
I’m sorry, WHAT?! MEN are treated as faceless, voiceless individuals?
In ONE page of google image results for antichoice posters, I came across the following images:
Notice a common theme here?
In not a SINGLE ONE of these pictures is a woman’s head shown, let alone her face. And these pictures don’t even count the number of posters that divorce a woman entirely from a pregnancy and focus exclusively on a an embryo or fetus.
And lest I forget, my “favorite” antichoice poster is one of a 3 month old or so INFANT sitting inside the body of a headless woman, lifting her torso away from her legs spouting some antichoice nonsense.
So, please, Lila, spare me the “we must protect the poor faceless and voiceless men” routine when your movement has done it’s damndest to ensure that women are completely erased in this discussion in favor of a fetus.
Till next time,
